Orange t-shirt Objection

Dear Members

President Glenn has asked that a letter sent to the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) by the President of the National Police Federation (NPF), Brian Sauve be circulated to you.

The letter was in reference to an image that appeared on the CUPW website with the preceeding text,

“Friday July 30 2021
2019-2023/289

We are all taking stock of the depravity that colonialism has wreaked on our Indigenous brothers, sisters and comrades, with the latest revelations of mass graves of Indigenous children found on the grounds of residential schools throughout the country.

As a commitment to addressing this ongoing colonial legacy, CUPW and the Indigenous Working Group of the National Human Rights Committee encourage all CUPW members to order a t-shirt:

    • to voice our solidarity with Indigenous people
    • to signal our horror at the genocidal practices engaged by colonialism
    • to press all our compatriots in taking seriously the Calls to Action that emanate from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

President Sauve’s letter is attached hereunder.

James Forrest
Director of Communications
