Dear Association Members,
Ottawa Division member, Suzanne Sarault has written a short piece on a course on expert testimony held at the Canadian Police College. An interesting piece on the role our members can play in providing assessment based on experience.

Technical Court Expert and Testimony
On November 5th and 6th, 2019, Members and friends of Ottawa Division contributed to the Technical Court Expert and Testimony (TCET) course at the Canadian Police College.
Our contribution in the mock trials was to give course participants genuine feedback as jury members during their testimony. This feedback was considered invaluable for the development of the court testimony skills of the participants. These TCET course participants were primarily civilian employees from highly technical fields (engineers & programmers). For many participants, this was their first exposure to court testimony. The participants had the challenge of fielding questions from experienced lawyers. The participants’ ability to answer the questions and to explain complex matters in a way that everyone could understand were two key feedback points that they were looking to receive from us.
All members and friends of the Ottawa Division very much enjoyed making a contribution and hope to have the opportunity to repeat the experience again in the future.
