Golden Horseshoe Division – Food Bank Challenge

The Golden Horseshoe Division Food Bank Challenge

Dear Members of the Association

Following on Golden Horseshoe Division President John Keddy’s challenge to support local food banks during this time of crisis a number of Divisions have risen to the challenge.

It is also rewarding to note that in this message we have been able to record an individual contribution and that of the RCMP “K” Division NCO’s Mess.

We are very pleased to provide more reporting on the responses to the Golden Horseshoe Challenge and how well the Association and the Force are being represented to the general public.

Edmonton Division Food Bank Donations

President Bruce Allen

In response to the challenge regarding food bank donations by Golden Horseshoe Division (Ontario), I am pleased to report that Edmonton Division Veterans’ Association will be making a donation of $6,300.00 to 42 (forty-two) Food Banks in Northern Alberta, which covers off our Division’s Membership area.

Over the past several years, our Division has undertaken a Christmas Silent Auction to raise funds for food hampers for needy families throughout our Division. We have also received donations from Veteran Members to support this cause.

In partnership with Detachment Members, we (Vets), deliver Christmas food hampers and Detachments give Christmas presents to needy families.

We have had great success and support in this endeavor which this year has created a surplus in our budget allocation. Therefore, surplus funds from this initiative have been now been redirected to much needed support to Northern Alberta Food Banks.

Covid 19 and the drop in oil prices have hit the Alberta economy extremely hard and unemployment is staggering. Alberta Food Banks are struggling to keep up with demand.

It is a pleasure for us to make this donation to the Food Banks on behalf of our Edmonton Division Members.
