Golden Horseshoe Division – Food Bank Challenge

The Golden Horseshoe Division Food Bank Challenge

Dear Members of the Association

Following on Golden Horseshoe Division President John Keddy’s challenge to support local food banks during this time of crisis a number of Divisions have risen to the challenge.

Kingston Division has added a new tack and are supporting Women’s Shelters. Certainly an excellent cause in these troubled times.

We are very pleased to continue reporting on the responses of our Divisions to the Golden Horseshoe Challenge and now the expansion of the challenge to a new area. All these initiatives show the tremendous sense of purpose of our Association and the Force in helping Canadians everywhere.

President Bob Myhill

We applaud our friends in the Golden Horseshoe for initiating this challenge.

We in the Kingston Region have made the decision to focus our efforts on victims of violence, and specifically women’s shelters, rather than food banks.

We did this recognizing that the stay-at-home protocol has made things even more dangerous for victims of domestic violence and their children.

Food banks in our respective communities are well organized and funded whereas the women’s shelters are not.

To this end, our Division is donating $600.00 from our Association funds to womens’s shelters, with this amount considerably enlarged by the very generous donations of individual members.

We will not have a final tally until all the donations are received. As our Division spans the cities of Kingston, Belleville and Brockville, our donations are being equally divided between shelters in each city.
