A Correction to the Centenarian Birthday Story

Syd Pratt – What a Birthday!

Dear Members of the Association

In the previous message about our centenarian’s birthday his last name was left off the script – Pratt. For this error we apologize. However, several members who identified this faut-pas added some more detail about Syd.

Jack O’Reilly of Toronto Division provided the fact that Syd had served from 1941 to 1953 in “O” Division. Jack also mentioned that the Association’s oldest member is Reg. No. 13967, George William “Bill” Fridgen who will be turning 103 on Monday, April 27, 2020. Bill is a member of Ottawa Division. Thank you to Jack for this notation.

Our Association Treasurer, Peter Sorensen also provided the correction to Syd’s name and added the fact that after Syd retired from the Force he moved on to Agriculture Canada where he was the Chief Supervisor of Race Track Betting Supervision. Members in the day, like Peter, knew Syd and interestingly enough more than 30 members of the Force transferred over to Agriculture Canada when the Force got out of the Race Track Detail in 1971.
