2020 Report to the Community – Surrey RCMP

2020 Report to the Community

I am pleased to share with you the Surrey RCMP’s 2020 Report to the Community, which provides an overview of the Surrey RCMP’s response to public safety issues and crime trends in 2020.

Policing in the year of 2020 was notable for, not only a global pandemic, but a global call for police to take a hard look at how they interact with the BIPOC community and other vulnerable populations. This continues to influence the work of our Diversity and Indigenous Peoples Unit, our Police Mental Health Outreach Team, and our detachment as a whole as we take steps to ensure the appropriate training, partnerships and consultation are in place to support all of these communities in an appropriate and respectful manner.

The work and accomplishments detailed in this report are thanks to our great team of police officers, support staff and volunteers. Despite a pandemic, we improved our response time, worked with the community to reduce both violent and property crime, and continued to advance innovative strategies to provide an efficient and responsive police service.

My sincere thanks to Surrey residents and business owners for being our partners in public safety throughout 2020.

Assistant Commissioner Brian Edwards
Officer in Charge, Surrey RCMP
