RCMP Pipes & Drums at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2019

Dear Association Members,

Ottawa Division Member Graham Muir has drawn our attention to the participation of the RCMP Pipes & Drums Band at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo of 2019.

Graham has provided a link to a BBC broadcast in which the RCMP Band figures quite largely.  It is quite a lengthy video on youtube which may be viewed by clicking here

If you want to only see the parts where the band appears Graham has also provided the locations on the video where the band appears.

  •  1:53 – Opening sequence: Massed Pipes & Drums
  • 38:45 – Massed Pipes & Drums, Shetland Fiddlers and Tattoo Dance Company
  • 57:00 – Tattoo Dance Company with Massed Bands
  • 1:09:40 – Brass Bands: Scots & Irish Guards, Royal Regiment of Scotland
  • 1:18:00 – ‘Kaleidoscope’: All Bands with cast, leading to the finale
  • 1:37:20 – The Lone Piper
  • 1:38:40 – March off: Brass Bands and cast
  • 1:40:15 – March off, Massed Pipes & Drums

Graham added that  “The RCMP Pipe Band that performed at the Tattoo was drawn from among the best pipers and drummers from each of our eight bands across Canada. The Band was comprised predominantly of citizen volunteers and we all travelled at our own expense. All of these performers gave their time and talent to ensure that Canada and the Force were celebrated on the world stage.

The RCMP’s National Band Program recently celebrated its 20th Anniversary and received a Commander’s Unit Commendation for outstanding volunteer service. This was the Band’s second deployment to the REMT. The first composite band performed in 2015. Participation at the REMT is ‘by invitation only’. Roughly 250,000 people see the Tattoo live on the Esplanade of Edinburgh Castle each summer. It has sold out in advance for the past 20 years. The BBC broadcasts the Tattoo to 6 million viewers in the UK and approximately 300 million people in over 40 countries worldwide each year. Sadly, the 2020 Tattoo has just been cancelled due to Covid-19.

A big thankyou to Graham for highlighting this event.  It is an incredible video and worth watching right through – despite its length.

There’s an alternate link to it below.
