New Book: Victoria Cross: For Daring & Conspicuous Acts Of Bravery
The Royal Canadian Legion has recently published an outstanding book entitled “Victoria Cross: For Daring and Conspicuous Acts Of Bravery.”
This 96 page book identifies and highlights the Canadians who were awarded the highest medal of bravery in the British Empire. Noted recipients include three Force ex-members:
Sergeant Major Arthur Richardson (Reg. #3058);
Constable Michael O’Leary (Reg. # 5685) ; and
Constable George Randolph Pearkes (Reg. #5529).
This book begins with the creation of the Victoria Cross and the changes in policies on who would be entitled to receive such a distinguished medal. Each pages includes photographs and maps with stories surrounding various recipients and their individual actions of bravery.
As this book outlines, a total of 98 Victoria Crosses have been awarded to Canadian since the medal came into existence.
The book is well written and contains many interesting stories. Clearly, it is a book worth considering for a Christmas gift this year.
