It is with great sadness that we announce the on-duty death of Kativik Regional Police Constable Steve Dery (Kuujjuaq Detachment), who died in hospital after being shot while responding to a domestic dispute late Saturday evening.

Story and video of the incident – Check out the details

Originally from Ottawa, Constable Dery was 27 years old and is a 4 year member of the Kativik Regional Police Force. Constable Dery is the first Kativik Regional Police Force officer to be killed while on-duty since the law enforcement agency was created in 1996. The force patrols the northern regions of Quebec and the Inuit villages that are part of this vast territory.

During this very difficult time, our thoughts and prayers go out to Constable Dery’s family and colleagues as they cope with this terrible loss.

Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau said the funeral is set for March 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Notre Dame Cathedral on Sussex Drive Ottawa, Ontario.
