Cst. Shelby Patton Memorial Park – Update

Honouring Cst. Shelby Patton

The Town of Indian Head, Saskatchewan

Cst. Shelby Patton

***Update*** Tax Receipts Available***

On June 12, 2021, Indian Head Detachment member Cst. Shelby Patton was tragically killed in the line of duty at Wolseley, Saskatchewan after responding to a stolen vehicle report.

The Town of Indian Head, working with a community-based volunteer committee, including RCMP members, is developing a Memorial Park to honour Cst. Patton’s sacrifice and commitment to his community. Details regarding the Memorial may be seen at Town Of Indian Head – Constable Shelby Patton Memorial Park.

The RCMPVA Foundation, after some legal advice and research, has determined that it can accept donations directed to this project, forward the proceeds to the Town of Indian Head established project, and issue tax receipts to donors. I believe this is, in part, due to the Town having a CRA number and being permitted by CRA to issue tax receipts to established projects of a charitable or memorial nature. This project meets that criteria.

The development committee is seeking donations from those who wish to be part of this legacy project, with a fundraising goal of $150,000. Acknowledgement of all donations will take place during an opening ceremony following the planned completion of the memorial, by the Fall of 2022. Tax receipts are available for donations made through the RCMP Veterans’ Association Foundation.

On behalf of the RCMP Veterans’ Association, Regina Division is working with the RCMP VA Foundation in a campaign to contact and solicit donations from all Divisions and Members of the RCMP Veterans’ Association towards a single, recognizable RCMP Veterans’ donation to the memorial.

Donations may be made via:

  1. CHEQUE payable to RCMPVA Foundation and mailed to: RCMPVA Foundation c/o RCMP Veterans’ Association Canadian Police College Box 8900 STN T-CSC Ottawa, Ontario K1G 3J2

Identify your donation as for the Cst. Shelby Patton Memorial Park and request a tax receipt in the name of the donor and provide or verify your address.

  1. E-TRANSFER to rcmpvafoundation@gmail.com.
    1. include “Shelby Patton Park” and your name in the donation notes if possible;
    2. in addition to your e-transfer, send an e-mail to rcmpvafoundation@gmail.com requesting a tax receipt, providing your name and mailing address, the amount of your donation and identifying it as for the Cst. Shelby Patton Memorial Park.

To the end of September, approximately $37,000 has been donated by the community, businesses, RCMP members and Veterans and as you can see, there is a long way to go.

Lets’ get behind this worthy cause honouring the memory of Constable Shelby Patton.
