Executive Officer Competition 2020

The RCMP Veterans’ Association seeks a knowledgeable, energetic and experienced self-starting individual to be the Association Executive Officer. Under the direction of the Board of Directors, the incumbent willsupport the Board in achieving its strategic priorities;

ensure compliance with the Association’s administrative and fiduciary responsibilities as required by legislation;

actively support the Association’s Director of Communications in the timely distribution of information to the membership via the website and social media;
represent the Association with the Government of Canada, the RCMP, other veterans’ organizations and the general public as required;

develop and maintain strategic partnerships;

manage the day-to-day operations and activities of the Ottawa Association Office. 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

* Canadian citizenship or Permanent Resident status;

* Resident in the National Capital Region;

* Able to obtain at minimum an RCMP “enhanced reliability” security clearance;

* Previous service and honourable discharge as a Member or Employee of the RCMP, and current membership in the RCMP Veterans’ Association, is highly desirable;

* Fluency in English is required. Ability to speak and work in French is desirable.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE

 * Experience in managing or directing a not-for-profit corporation, or similar charitable or advocacy organization, ideally in the veteran or policing fields;

* Knowledge about the legislation pertaining to the governance of not-for-profit corporations, in particular the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act and Regulations, and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act;

* Knowledge about the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, its history, traditions and customs, organization, operations, personnel and policies, including its governing legislation – the RCMP Act; RCMP Regulations, 2014; RCMP Superannuation Act; and the RCMP Pension Continuation Act;

* Knowledge about Veterans Affairs Canada and its legislation and policies pertaining to veteran’s pensions, benefits and services;

* Strong oral and written communication skills; * Experience in developing content and posting material upon social media platforms (MailChimp, Twitter, Facebook, etc.)

* Knowledge of financial accounting and ability to provide adequate oversight and transparency in managing the Association’s finances in cooperation with the Association Treasurer and Public Accountant as required;

  • Experience in office management, including supervision of subordinate employees and / or contracted services;
  • Have exemplary interpersonal skills, and possess high standards of diplomacy, tact and discretion.

SALARY AND PLACE OF WORK

This is a full-time position with a 32-hour per week work schedule. Salary is negotiable. Place of work will be the Association Office located on the campus of the Canadian Police College in Ottawa, ON. Free parking is available. Cafeteria and fitness facilities are available on site.
