RCMP Appreciation Day – Feb 1, 2020

In 1919 the Parliament of Canada voted to form a national police force by merging the North-West Mounted Police and the Dominion Police of Eastern Canada, and on February 1, 1920, the newly formed police force was named the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.  This day was proclaimed in the fall of 2019, by the Attorney General and Lieutenant Governor of BC as “Royal Canadian Mounted Police Appreciation Day.”   This initiative started in Vernon, BC and was brought forward from individual community members wanting to recognize RCMP Members for the good work that each Member does daily within the community.  Many communities within BC are engaging in this opportunity to show appreciation to the work that RCMP members and employees do in their communities.

I have attached a document that shows the actual proclamation and the media release that Vernon Detachment has issued highlighting some of their community activities.

I wanted to share this with you so you aware of the special aspects of February 1, both historically within the Force and that there are community members that support and appreciate all that our employees do.
