Loving father of Lee (Doug) of North Delta, BC, Debbie of Brooks, AB, Kim (Alain) of Casselman, ON and Todd (Karen) of Halifax, NS. Cherished grandfather of Matthew (Kayla), Derek (Shelby), Erin (Ryan), Kelsey (Cooper), Justin, Patrick and Daniel. Beloved great-grandfather of Mara, Liam, Bennett and Penny. Dear brother of Gerald (Gwen), Nelson (late Darlene), Doug (Rhondda) and brother-in-law of David (Priscilla). Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Bill grew up on the family farm just outside of Brooks, Alberta. He was an avid baseball player who played for the Millicent Young Liberals and the Duchess Dukes. He was a member of the militia before joining the RCMP in 1952.
Bill’s RCMP career took him across Canada with postings including Winnipeg, Nipigon, Ottawa, Edmonton and Vancouver. With all of the moves requiring the family to move across the country, each of his children were born in a different city! Further to that, as the children grew older, there was a running joke that he left one behind in a different city each subsequent move!
Retiring from the RCMP after 35 years of service, Bill and Peggy moved from Ottawa and back to BC in 1987. Not ready to completely retire, Bill worked part time at the Vancouver Federal courthouse as a bailiff thoroughly enjoying listening to the many interesting trials. As an active member of the Veterans Association he served in various capacities including the role of President at one time.
Bill’s greatest joy was his family, cherishing all. Getting together with family and cheering on his grandchildren in sports and other events was a highlight for him. Bill and Peggy especially enjoyed travelling and took great pleasure in visiting all of their family and friends across Canada. Family road trips were unforgettable.
Bill enjoyed many hobbies including golf, curling, woodworking, photography, crossword puzzles and listening to country music, We have plenty of wood projects and family photos that showcase Dad’s talents.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all of the staff at Crescent Gardens for their kindness, support and care given to Dad.
If friends so desire, donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Cancer society or a charity of your choice.
A celebration of life to be held at a later date.
Forever in our hearts…
