Inspector Ken Burton forwarded to us the news that the Canadian Coast Guard Ship – Corporal Heather CV (Cross of Valour) is now undergoing sea trials.  It was the decision of the Canadian government to name one of the new Canadian Coast Guard vessels after this famous RCMP member.

As many Veterans may remember, this ship was named after Corporal Bob Teather who while serving on the “E” Division Dive Team risked his life save two fishermen who were stuck in a capsized and sinking fishing boat.

Based on his action, Bob Teather was awarded the national’s highest medal for bravery – the Cross of Valour.  He is the only member of the RCMP member to be award this high honour.

For all member who served with Bob Teather, he is described as a humble and caring individual who served as a role model to others.

Unfortunately, Bob passed away on November 15, 2004.  His memory still lives with all past and current members of the “E” Division Dive Team as well as members who served with him.

Last year, we did a tribute article on Bob and the circumstances of his rescue actions. Check out the details which resulted in Bob receiving the Cross of Valour

As RCMP Veterans, we hope that the Force will also honour the actions of Corporal Bob Teather by naming a building or boardroom or other area in his name.
